The Coyotes have loaned goaltender David Aebischer to HC Lugano of the Swiss Elite League. Aebischer, 29, appeared in one game for the Coyotes this season. The Fribourg, Switzerland, native signed a US$600,000, one-year deal with the Coyotes on July 19. Lugano will pick up the rest of Aebischer's NHL salary.

Defenseman Matt Carle agreed to a four-year contract extension Wednesday with the San Jose Sharks, who locked up another key young player with a lengthy deal. Carle, who won the Hobey Baker award as the NCAA's top player in 2006, has been a regular on San Jose's blue line since signing a pro contract late in the 2005-06 season. He scored 42 points in 77 games last season, making the NHL's all-rookie team along with fellow Sharks defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic.

The Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks signed Ryan Getzlaf to a five-year extension worth $26.625 million that begins next season and runs through 2012-13. The 22-year-old center has seven goals and 14 assists in 19 games this season. "We are extremely pleased to be able to sign Ryan to a long-term deal," general manager Brian Burke said Tuesday. "He's demonstrated great character and work ethic to complement his talent, a rare combination at such a young age." Getzlaf would have become a restricted free agent at the end of the season. The third-year player will earn $5.325 million per year under his new deal.

A local investor group trying to buy the Nashville Predators reached an agreement with city officials on changes to the team's arena lease. The investor group planned an announcement earlier this week amid reports that it had reached a deal after several weeks of negotiation. But it was canceled at the last minute when city officials said it wasn't final. This time, both sides confirmed the agreement.
